Fourteen

Verity opened her eyes to see Arien slipping from bed. “Where are you going?” she asked as she turned over.

“I have to get the boys ready and make sure they are moving their asses,” Arien said as she came back over to place a kiss against her lips before turning to look for her clothes.

Verity was still naked, and deliciously sore. Carrigan and Nassar had been most attentive, and then a super early morning wake up with Arien once she was off her patrol was a pleasant distraction.

She turned to the clock to see it was almost nine and sat up, watching Arien pad around the room, getting dressed. Carrigan walked in with a smile and a cup of coffee, followed by Oona who had a tray.

“You look rested,” Carrigan said and sat, handing her the cup. “And extremely fuckable.”

She laughed as Oona settled the tray on her lap from the other side. “Breakfast. Late night last night, Princess?”

“Blame these two and the demon.” She pointed to both Carrigan and Arien, who was now dressed. Where was Nassar? Wherever he was he would be complaining later about not having his breakfast. Well, it was his own fault.

“I do,” Oona said with a grin. “But you are also brimming with power, Princess, so they did their job.”

She didn’t feel like she was brimming with power. She felt good, blissfully used and attended to, but if power was supposed to have a specific feel she was ignorant of it.

“What’s on the agenda for today?”

“Well, it was supposed to be the intention ceremony, but Poppy decided to change that, we are waiting to hear what is going on.”

As if by clockwork, Fallworth appeared in the doorway to her bedroom. “Apologies, Princess, I do not mean to intrude.”

She nodded and sipped her coffee, trying to remain aloof. “It is okay, Fallworth, what can we do for you?”

“Oh, nothing, Princess, I am here to inform you that Queen Poppy has decided that the Courts have not been together in too long and would enjoy a day on the great lawns, for some reconnection and merriment.”

“Oh,” she said, looking to Arien and Carrigan, whose faces were both blank. “Well then, we will be there.”

“Very good, Princess. The Sleeping Court’s section is being set up now.” He bowed and then turned on his heel and left.

Verity looked to Arien. “I don’t know that I trust anyone to set our section up.”

“Nor should you, Princess,” Oona said. “With your permission, and that of Captain Arien, I would like to go and handle that. Captain, I can take Moss as well if you think you can spare him.”

“I think taking Moss is a good idea,” Arien said. “He should be waking up about now. I know he and Lily were up late watching over our guests.” A hint of a smile crossed her lips and Verity could tell her captain was as proud of Moss as she was. “Carrigan, if you could round up Everett, I’m going to get Quinn and have him come escort you to the great lawns.
